It is the most important prehistoric legacy of the Antilles, since it has more than 6,000 prehistoric paintings and around 500 rock carvings.
It is made up of 55 caves and they are inside the Cuevas del Pomier Anthropological Reserve.
The original name of "Pommier" is due to the first settlers of French origin, since there were many fruits of papaya (Annona muricata), comparing it with the apple ("pomme" in French) for its reddish color when ripe. Thus, they called the place with the French word "Pommier" by the translation of manzanar, according to historical reports.
They were first discovered by the British Consul Sir Robert Schomburgk, in 1849.

We adapt it to you
Enjoy our private excursions to the most interesting places in the Dominican Republic according to your taste and availability.
The Dominican Republic is more than sun and beach, we have a great diversity to offer, adaptable to all tastes and ages, among which we can highlight:
- Urban tourism : is that which takes place in cities and within urban areas "with large populations". See Free Colonial City Tour.
Our country has this option, and it will undoubtedly make you feel unique experiences, with a new story to tell and share over and over again.
-Cultural tourism : as its name indicates, it is the one that highlights the cultural aspects of each destination, in order to experience, know and understand the distinctive elements that characterize it and that express the identity of a destination (beliefs, gastronomy, crafts, customs, traditions, etc).
Which as a country makes us great possessors of this, since our roots and origins give us that great singularity that identifies us.
